THE Father's Day (written 6/10)

As we approach Father's Day, sons and daughters by the hundreds of thousands are looking for the perfect Father's Day gift for the Father they respect and love dearly. Some fathers will be getting fishing gear, new clothes, that special little whatsit that he's been talking about, or maybe even a gift card to choose the gift of their hearts desire. A lot of thought and effort will be expended looking for just the right thing to honor the father they admire. But I worry about the father that I don't hear mentioned nearly enough when I hear people talk about Father's Day. The one who's always there in support with just the right words of wisdom to get His children through the tough times in their life. The one who's always willing to shell out when his children are in need. The one who would do anything for the children He values more than anything else and always keeps them at the forefront of His thoughts. He thinks of them first in all things and has the most unbelievable patience and forgiving gentle spirit.

I'm talking about the Father of all Fathers. Our first Father, our eternal Father, the one we will live with forever. The Father who existed before any other, the one that created every father after Him. The one whose mercy we are all dependent on each and every day. The one whose grace gives us continued life and blessing upon which we are all constantly dependent. The one who has labored to give us life and created an entire universe for us to live in. The one who loves us so deeply that He sacrificed His only son that we could survive this life to live with Him forever. What Father has given more to His children. What Father is more wise, a better teacher, or is to be respected more highly? And there's only one thing He wants... only one thing that would truly bless His heart and it won't cost a dime. We don't need to send a card with it and He'd prefer that we didn't wrap it ... our deepest, most honest love and heart felt affection is all that He desires...

If you forgot to think of Him this Fathers Day, there's no need to panic. There's nothing to order, no postage due and delivery is immediate. Please just send it ASAP C/O Jesus Christ, His precious holy Son via knee mail. He's sure to get it on time, without delay and the response you get will be far greater than the effort to send it. What gift could the fathers of the world, those sons among whom our heavenly Father calls His own, cherish more, than for their Eternal Father to be honored and exalted in honest worship on Father's Day? Why worry about finding the perfect gift when you already have it to give? True, it may require something deeply personal from you. But considering that the gifts our eternal Father has given us are nothing less than deeply personal, what could be more appropriate? It won't be the wrong color if it's honest and it's guaranteed to fit if it's sent with nothing less than your whole heart. And I happen to know that it's the only thing THE Father really wants on Father's Day! By the way, if it hadn't crossed your mind, the really cool thing is ... every day is THE Father's Day!

This "Christ"mas...

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Luke 2:8-14 (NKJ) As "Christ"mas approaches it usually finds me refreshing my knowledge and understanding of what I believe that it is that we as "Christ"ians should be celebrating in our observation of the event of Christ's birth. I do this in ...

An Observance And Observing True Reality...

As Easter approaches, I begin once again considering how our God sees our observance of an occasion as I always do and also what He might truly desire of us in observance above any of our trivial, man inspired traditions . What I come away with in firm conviction is the understanding that the most trivial of my sins, the least of my crimes against God, had the power to forever damn me in His judgment of me and send me into unending torment. And that knowing this one thing in truth and as reality, is key to my correct posture before God in honor of His purpose in the event. That key being the horror of knowing that the price of my very least sin was the shedding of my Christ Jesus' blood and His horrible suffering, because the reality of this brings the deep rending of my heart in awe and gratitude and it makes possible my true joy at the relief of my sentence because of what He has done. I believe this is a part of what God would desire from us in observance of Christ's death a...

The Real Power To Affect Change

I know that my position here may not be popular on it's face at first, but I think it could be most revealing of where some hearts are - even my own, by the response that it evokes... I think it's possible that we're all partly responsible for the chaos and darkness that is constantly swirling around in the digital tornado that is the constantly hammering news these days. While we may not have contributed to it directly by our own actions, it's a good bet that we may have contributed to it by our own inaction. Where does the true power to change things come from? And who is our best example to follow in this life? Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed." Mark 1:35 (NKJ) "Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God." Luke 6:12 (NKJ) "Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought ...
