"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Revelation 4:11 (KJ)
There's something about this verse in the King James version that grabs me every time that I read it. From the inspiration of this one verse, my heart and mind begin sounding out a litany of truths every time. For example...
We did not create ourselves, we were created by God (So any physical trait that we might brag on (even inwardly) only reveals our utter foolishness) We had no hand in our own creation. Such things and even our talents and personal gifts didn't originate with us, but are from the same hands that formed us. And further, we were created not by or for our own pleasure, but HIS. So it seems obvious that our purpose above all other things would be to serve HIS pleasure rather than our own. Indeed, all things are intended to serve His pleasure, but among His greatest pleasures, given the cost of our redemption to Himself, proves to be us! And our relationship with Him being among His strongest desires concerning us as demonstrated by the fullness of scripture, further reveals our purpose!
The mere words of The Lord God brought all that is into being and His word as dictated to men that He chose and trusted to write it down, becomes alive and expanding within us - connecting all of scripture together as we consume it and submit ourselves to the study of it and to the revelation of it through the Holy Spirit. Such things may seem mysterious to us, but the Lord makes clear that our understanding of His unlimited wisdom is limited. So ours is not to question God, but to exercise our choice to submit in obedience to His far higher wisdom and sovereign authority. Would any lessor being dare to insolently question or challenge a king over them who had the authority to put them to death? Or would they rather submit to the king's authority? How much greater the available consequence to those who choose to challenge the God who has the power to exact far greater horrors than any human mind has ever had the power to conceive let alone the power to execute.
I fear that mankind has become so irreverent and insolent that for the far greater majority, his coming end will be more likely horrific than not and that the odds of his finding his way out of the predicament he is in are very small because of his own intellect and pride. And also because of the veil of deception that the enemy is employing against him so effectively as hearts and minds are so self pleasingly wrapped up in themselves rather than in the God that created them and that has the power to destroy them - eternally.
I've said it before and have repeated it in a spirit of humility, that one that must see in order to believe will likely never experience what must be believed in order to be seen. I believe this to be true when it comes to many of the things of God. So many of the promises and blessings that God has offered mankind require something of us first in order to received the benefit of His offer to us. The key becomes our submission to trust God, to believe Him first, and to obediently give Him what He requires of us - respecting His authority over us.
The origin of so many revelations come from our study of the fullness of scripture (not just limited random or favored snippets) and I can't help but wonder if our diligence to seek Him out, both in scripture and constant relationship, aren't the signs of our trust and belief that He's looking for to confirm our claims of belonging to Him...
"He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" Micah 6:8 (NKJ)
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? Indeed heaven and the highest heavens belong to the Lord your God, also the earth with all that is in it." Deuteronomy 10:12-14 (NKJ)
